Wet Season Farming in Rice Fields

Share

A wheel to bolt-on-track conversion. In May 2022 TKV Group was contacted by Paul Henderson from Cunninyeuk, a key rice growing region east of Swan Hill on the NSW side of the Murray river.

Paul has his own farming operation as well as contract harvesting for other farmers within a 20km radius. The extreme and unrelenting wet that had been affecting vast areas of the country was ensuring that the deadline to harvest rice was drawing near. As the days rolled on and the sun didn’t appear Paul came to the realisation that he needed a track system for his Case header if he was to get any rice off both, for himself and other farmers who did not own headers and were relying on Paul for the harvest.

Paul really rang at the right time as TKV had one remaining set of 36 inch wide Camso CTS conversion track systems in stock. All other stock had been sold due to the unprecedented wet season.

The deal was done and the tracks were on a truck heading south within days.

Paul was able to fit the units himself in 3 to 4 hours with a couple of mates lending a hand. With the simple wheel hub mount design no modifications are required. The harvest stated and the money started rolling in off a very healthy crop.

TKV arranged a visit to the farm some days later where Paul was working to see the tracks in action. We were utterly astounded, Paul was harvesting in standing water, metre deep sticky mud and beside water filled drainage channels without the harvester raising a sweat.

The Chaser bin and Mother bin obviously had to keep off the rice paddy (TKV track systems would have solved this 😊) this meant the header was doing extra trips to unload, none of this was an issue due to the class leading flotation and traction from the Camso track systems.

If we were asked was it possible to drive a loaded header in such conditions we would have been sceptical having never experienced such a wet field. Not now! Bogging was not even on Pauls mind as the track systems filled him with confidence to get out there and do what he does best, grow and harvest rice.

View the video and make up your own mind, would you invest in a set of conversion tracks to ensure you can keep farming when the next wet season arrives just at the wrong time.

Contact TKV for a wheel to tracks conversion solution for your header, tractor, chaser bin or implement.
